If you are in the European Economic Area, you may exercise the rights available under applicable law through the privacy contact and, where applicable, with the data protection authority in your habitual place of residence.
2. Information Kintsugi handles
The information depends on the features you use.
Information stored on the device
- projects, names, notes, dates, restoration status, shape settings, materials, pigments, brushes, bands, finishes, gold settings, lighting, environments and editing state;
- previews and images generated by the user; and
- app preferences, tutorial state, graphics options and blocked authors.
The app stores a random technical installation identifier in the device Keychain for internal functions. It is not used as a public name.
Camera, augmented reality and motion
Kintsugi requests camera access when an AR feature needs it. The camera feed and spatial tracking are used to display a piece in your surroundings and to create a capture when you choose to do so. Kintsugi does not need access to your photo library for this feature.
Motion data is processed on the device for parallax, lighting or interaction effects. In the reviewed implementation, it is not sent to our servers or kept as a motion history. You can deny the permission or close the feature; some experiences will then be unavailable.
Information synchronized through iCloud/CloudKit
When CloudKit is enabled and your iCloud account is available, Apple may sync project data in the app’s private container. Community also uses CloudKit’s public database. For Community, we may handle:
- an opaque iCloud account identifier to associate records with their owner;
- your handle and, if provided, your visible display name;
- submitted captures, thumbnails, dimensions, technical hashes, render version, dates and publication status;
- likes, reports and any notes you choose to include in a report; and
- if you participate in the possible physical-edition study, your response, optional reason, the displayed indicative range, date and optional email address.
Content published to Community, the handle, visible name and images of a piece may be visible to other users. Reports, notes, account identifiers and moderation metadata are not shown in the public feed unless required by law.
In-app purchases
Digital-content purchases are processed by Apple and StoreKit. Kintsugi receives product, transaction and entitlement information sufficient to determine whether content can be unlocked. It does not receive your full payment-card number. Purchase history and payment data are also governed by Apple’s policies and terms.
3. Where information comes from
Information comes from you, your device and Apple services that you authorize or use, such as iCloud/CloudKit, the App Store and StoreKit. Kintsugi currently does not include email registration, Sign in with Apple, HealthKit, location, microphone, contacts or cross-app and cross-website tracking.
4. How information is used
We use information to:
- provide, save, synchronize and restore Kintsugi features;
- display Community pieces and profiles that have been published;
- process likes, reports, blocks, removal requests and moderation;
- enforce technical limits and prevent fraud, abuse, spam and unauthorized access;
- manage purchases and restore entitlements through Apple;
- respond to support, privacy, intellectual-property and security requests; and
- optionally study interest in a possible physical edition.
We do not use motion data, camera feeds or captures for advertising. We do not sell personal information or create advertising profiles.
5. Legal bases
Where the GDPR or equivalent law applies, the legal basis may be performance of the service you request, your consent to optional permissions and the optional physical-edition email, our legitimate interest in security and moderation, and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw a permission or consent without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal; doing so may make the related feature unavailable.
6. Who receives information
Kintsugi uses Apple services for distribution, purchases, iCloud/CloudKit, technical iCloud identity, system notifications and augmented reality. Apple handles information under its own terms and privacy policies.
Content you publish to Community is shared with users of the public feed. Providers involved in hosting, security, support or legal compliance may receive only the information needed for their function and under applicable contractual safeguards.
We do not share information with advertising networks or allow third parties to use your information for behavioral advertising in Kintsugi.
7. Retention and deletion
Local projects and preferences remain on the device until you delete them, delete the app or use an available deletion feature. Data synchronized to iCloud depends on the account, container and Apple settings.
You can delete your Community profile and associated data from the in-app account controls. You can also request removal of an individual publication from your profile. We delete data that we no longer need, except for technical copies, security records, reports, fraud-prevention records, defense of claims or legal obligations that require limited retention.
Purchases and transactions may remain in your Apple ID purchase history because Apple manages them directly. Deleting the app does not by itself delete that Apple history.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may request access, correction, portability, restriction, objection or deletion of your information, and withdraw consent. You can also:
- deny or revoke camera access in iOS Settings;
- disable Kintsugi’s iCloud access through your account settings;
- delete projects, your Community profile and publications through the available in-app controls;
- manage purchases and request refunds from Apple; and
- block authors and report content from Community.
We respond within the time required by applicable law. We may ask for reasonable information to verify that a request comes from the relevant data subject.
9. Security
We use reasonable controls and the protections provided by iOS, Keychain, CloudKit and StoreKit where appropriate. No device, network or service is completely secure. Protect your device, passcode and Apple ID, and do not publish information that you want to keep private.
10. Children
Kintsugi is not designed or marketed specifically for children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, email contact@joeblacksmith.com so we can review and delete the information where appropriate.
11. International transfers
Apple and other providers may process information outside your country. Where applicable, we will use safeguards recognized by data-protection law for those transfers.
12. Changes
We may update this Policy when the Service, technology, providers or law change. We will publish the new version and update the effective date. If the change is material, we will provide an additional notice where required.
13. Contact and complaints
